Better Homes & Gardens, whose paint is available at Walmart, has announced its 2023 Color of the Year: Canyon Ridge, a light swirl over terracotta that plays a “near neutral” on walls.
Canyon Ridge is a sun-baked, warm terracotta—not too light, not too dark. So it feels fresh and bright, but also comforting and fun.
BH&G says the selection is inspired by nature and feels quite “sunset over desert landscapes”. It works well as an accent wall or an entire room, and its perfect color wheel partner is blue.

Already this year, Glidden and PPG have jointly chosen Vining Ivy (teawood) as their Color of the Year for 2023, while HGTV Home by Sherwin Williams chose Darkroom, a very dark gray with purple undertones. Valspar has announced a palette of 12 colors, five of which are blue and/or green.
Color of the Year announcements roll out all fall, and usually the choices are all over the map, though each one is meant to represent something about how our home’s color palette makes us feel. In the last few years, blues, greens and blue-greens have dominated the choices.
