Imphal, August 15 (SocialNews.XYZ) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Monday said the state government has launched a war against the menace of drugs, adding that 2,536 people were arrested and drugs worth Rs 4,040 crore were seized and 1,930 cases were registered in the last few years.
The Prime Minister said that various communities and Civil Society Organizations have given “a lot of support” to the fight against the menace of drugs, and the government has also set up an Anti-Narcotics Task Force to strengthen the action.
“(Marijuana) cultivators in Ganja will be provided with alternative means of livelihood as part of the ‘War on Drugs’. The state government is preparing a Detailed Project Report with the help of the North-East Region Development Union and the Ministries of Agriculture.” he said.
Hoisting the national flag at the First Manipur Rifle Range on the outskirts of Imphal on the occasion of Independence Day, the Chief Minister said that in response to the government’s appeal, 26 cadres of various armed groups had surrendered this year.
He said that to prevent corruption, the Anti-Corruption Department in the Prime Minister’s Office has been strengthened as the Public Grievance Control and Anti-Corruption Department, headed by a BAS officer of the rank of secretary.
Manipur Lokayukta has also started functioning very actively, he said.
Manipur also exported black rice, king pepper, turmeric and pineapple to various countries and sold organic produce worth over Rs 246 crore domestically, the chief minister said.
He said Manipur has completed construction or renovation of 286 ponds against the target of constructing 240 fish ponds under Amrit Sarovar component of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’. According to him, the achievement is 120 percent.
The Chief Minister further said that five of the seven athletes from Manipur won medals in the recent Commonwealth Games.
He also honored the memory of freedom fighters and personally met with artists and performers who performed various events on the occasion of the holiday.
