NGHE AN (Vietnam News/ANN) – Hundreds of people have been rescued from flooded Ky Son district, thanks to the army, police and authorities of Nghe An province, who reached them after prolonged torrential rains since September 4.
In Nam Tien 2 Village of Bao Nam Commune, only four households were not affected; the remaining 52 people had to evacuate.
Ky Son District People’s Committee reported that more than 160 houses were flooded, 8 of them were blown away and 66 were damaged as of September 12.
Hundreds of hectares of farmland and fish ponds were swept away.
Bao Nam Commune was the worst affected area where 26 households were destroyed and many livestock were taken. Prolonged torrential rains and landslides have also led to the closure of many roads and the isolation of villages.
Thò Bá Re, deputy chairman of the Kỳ Son District People’s Committee, said many people cried as they watched their livestock and fields drown in the fast-flowing water.
Kỳ Son District People’s Committee estimated that the severe floods caused more than VND 70 billion in damages. The district administration helped the people with a total of 3.7 tons of rice, 740 boxes of instant noodles, 740 bottles of fish sauce and 1000 boxes of spices.
