The District Magistrate, East West Khasi Hills District, in an order dated August 23, 2022 under Section 144 CrPC, restricted and prohibited the organization of fishing competitions with a total prize of more than Rs.1,00,000. collecting entry fee more than Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred) per rod and conducting fishing competitions more than twice in one and the same pond.

The order was issued by offering a highly attractive cash prize of up to 2000 manats after receiving complaints about certain persons organizing fishing competitions in various fish ponds located in the region. 15,00,000/- (Rupees Fifteen Lakhs) ticket entry fee of Rs.500/- (Rupees Five Hundred) per hunt per day and the order was sought to prevent misinterpretation and misuse of the provisions of the Entertainment Act and the poor with meager earnings and exploitation with secure livelihood.

Anyone violating the order will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860.
